Max Goldston’s musical timeline reflects a rich journey that transitioned from performing in European pop-rock bands and American acoustic duos to establishing himself as a highly accomplished independent new-age instrumental guitarist.
Driven by unique guitar retuning methods inspired by legends like Will Ackerman and Michael Hedges, Goldston's career timeline spans several decades of evolution:
Early Career: Band Formations & Duos (1980s – 1990s)
- 1980s (Spain): After growing up on the artist-heavy island of Ibiza, Goldston formed an American/Spanish pop-rock band named Limites. The group saw widespread popularity , often opening for or curtain-calling Spain's biggest contemporary acts.
- 1991 (United States): Goldston moved back to the U.S. and re-partnered with a former college bandmate to form the acoustic duo Tim and Max (also known as Bellows and Stone). They gained a prominent following across the Southeast, notably gigging at major venues in Atlanta and North Carolina and opening for elite instrumental acts like Acoustic Alchemy.
- 1997: Following the breakup of the acoustic duo, Goldston wrote his very first solo instrumental piece, titled “Whistlin’”. This marked the pivotal shift toward his signature acoustic fingerstyle sound.
